HUGS from ELY

HUGS from E.L.Y. is the Charity's Funeral Plan which will provide a one-off gift payment of up to £3,000 towards a basic funeral for your son or daughter.

There are no words to describe the pain and heartache of losing your child in a road traffic collision. We as a family know the immense devastation you all now face, this is why the ELY Memorial Fund will support you through the early months.

The Police will present you with our “Hugs” pack that is your link to ELY for you to seek support from one of the Funeral Directors who work with us. The Funeral Director will liaise with us for financial assistance towards the cost of your child’s funeral, of up to £3,000. It is a simple pack offering our financial support, guidance for the Funeral Directors and ongoing support from other organisations who support bereaved families.

We will be there along your journey as and when you need to reach out to us, but for the immediate support it will be your family, the Funeral Director and Family Liaison Officer.

Eligibility

To seek help from the Memorial Fund, families will have to meet certain criteria for their loved ones. The funeral payment will be paid directly to the appointed Funeral Directors who are situated within Herefordshire.

The following criterion applies:-

  • The family resides in Herefordshire;

  • The deceased is aged between 17 to 25 years, in particular but not exclusively;

  • Have no existing life insurance;

  • Passed away in a motor vehicle whether driver or passenger under the DVLA Categories B, B1, BAuto, B+E and C, C1 (see Guidance INS57P - Information on driving licences).

 

What is covered:-

  • Disbursements

  • Hearse and one car

  • Coffin

  • Chapel of Rest

  • Crematorium or Burial

What is not covered:-

  • Obituary

  • Order of Service

  • Flowers

  • Headstone

  • Burial or cremation plot

 

We offer our deepest sympathy because we know that this is a traumatic time having to cope with the loss of your child and trying to arrange the funeral.  The condolence gift "Hugs from ELY" will offer some financial relief at a time when you won't be thinking straight.  We aim to assess your request for help as quickly as possible as to whether you meet the criteria of ELY and aim to notify yourself and the funeral directors within 2 days of your request. We would kindly ask that you complete this form so we can hopefully help your family, when it really matters.
