NFU Mutual funding boost to support ELY’s Young Driver Experience

Here at the ELY Memorial Fund, we received a significant boost towards our work helping young people become safer drivers, thanks to a £7,899 donation from NFU Mutual Hereford North & Borders.

The funding was awarded through the agency’s new Agency Giving Fund and helped support the delivery of our Young Driver Experience in July 2026, which gives young people aged 14 to 17 the opportunity to develop essential driving skills in a safe, controlled environment.

The programme forms an important part of our work at ELY to reduce the number of young people involved in serious road traffic collisions. Through practical experience and road safety education, participants are given the opportunity to build confidence, understand the risks associated with driving and develop safer habits before they begin driving independently on public roads.

NFU Mutual Hereford North & Borders selected The ELY Memorial Fund as the first recipient of funding through its Agency Giving Fund, recognising both the charity’s commitment to improving young driver safety and the support it provides to families affected by the loss of a young person in a road traffic collision.

Alongside our preventative road safety work, we support bereaved families through initiatives including the HUGS Pack and financial assistance towards funeral costs.

“We’re incredibly grateful to NFU Mutual Hereford North & Borders for this generous donation and for recognising the importance of the work we do,” said Ange Tyler, Charity Manager.

“This funding will make a real difference to our Young Driver Experience, helping us reach more young people with practical experience and road safety education. Every young person we can help become a safer driver is another step towards preventing the devastating impact of a serious collision.”

The support from NFU Mutual has helped us to deliver our Young Driver Experience event this year and give more young people the opportunity to learn in a safe and supportive environment.

We are hugely grateful to NFU Mutual Hereford North & Borders for supporting our work and helping us continue our mission to make roads safer for young people and their families.
